PCRCC Endorses Primary Winners
Circleville, Ohio, May 30 - The Pickaway County Republican Central Committee (PCRCC) unanimously voted to endorse local, state and national Republican candidates in the November general election. The committee has chosen not to endorse candidates in recent history, but new committee chairman Travis Ricketts believes the committee should and will do more to show candidates they are supported.
“Our Republican candidates need to know the central committee is behind them,” Ricketts said. “So, we are doing some things differently than in recent years. Republicans have a real chance at winning some key races, but it is going to require the effort of all of us. We have to set our differences aside and do what is right for the voters.”
The committee voted to endorse the following candidates at Thursday's meeting:
Endorsements
Donald J. Trump - President
Bernie Moreno - U.S. Senate
Dave Taylor - U.S. Representative
Megan Shananhan - Ohio Supreme Court
Joseph Deters - Ohio Supreme Court
Dan Hawkins - Ohio Supreme Court
Jason Smith - Court of Appeals
Mike Hess - Court of Appeals
Brian Stewart - State Representative
Matt Chafin - Court of Common Pleas
Harold “Champ” Henson - County Commissioner
Gary Scherer - County Commissioner
Jayme Hartley Fountain - Prosecuting Attorney
Grant Davis - Clerk of Courts
Matthew O. Hafey - Sheriff
Sarah Turner - Recorder
John Howley - Treasurer
Chris Mullins - Engineer
After hearing from Gary Scherer, a member of the outgoing bylaws subcommittee, the PCRCC voted overwhelmingly to accept an updated set of bylaws the central committee will now operate by.
The update is the first of its kind since 1997 and modernizes outdated laws that will allow the committee to perform business with more ease. This update is also part of Ricketts' plans to get more central committee members involved in the process and contribute to the improvement of the committee, as a new bylaws subcommittee will be established to offer additional changes.
“It has been nearly thirty years since we updated our bylaws,” Ricketts added. “Removing the requirement of sending meeting notices by mail, allowing the treasurer to pay bills online rather than check, and the establishment of a new committee empowered to conduct the party’s day-to-day affairs means the PCRCC can now operate at the speed of business. There is still more to do, but with a 69% vote of approval for the new bylaws, the committee has affirmed its commitment to becoming a more effective organization in the service of Republicans.”
